Frequently Asked Questions

Where is your firm?

Our firm is virtual, so our private clients can expect to work with us on the phone or over the internet through email or video conferencing.

A primarily virtual firm minimizes our environmental impact, results in savings that we can pass along to you, and allows us to work with clients regardless of location.

Noah‘s CPS practice requries conducting in-person meetings for parent clients and home/school visits for child clients. Noah is fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Can I afford your services?

Through a pay-it-forward model, we offer flexibility and hope to make our services available to anyone. We use flat rates to simplify billing, and can agree to reduced rates or payment plans for those who need it. This applies to our initial consultation fee as well, so don’t hesitate to make an appointment if you’re interested in working with us!

In the end, we simply ask you to pay it forward. Paying what you’re able helps support our trans-owned and operated business, and keeps our doors open so we can serve others in our community.

Are there free legal services for name and gender marker change?

Yes! Wesley wrote a guide on name and gender marker change in Texas, available here: https://texaslawhelp.org/article/texas-name-and-gender-marker-change-guide, which includes a section on legal resources. We encourage you to seek free legal help if you need it.

If there are free services, why should I hire an attorney?

Free name and gender marker change help relies on a pro bono model—volunteer attorneys and law students donating their time. Pro bono clinics often have limited time and space, and offer limited services.

We have the flexibility to offer you individualized attention and can see your case through from start to finish.

We firmly believe legal services should be available to everyone so we’d encourage you to hire an attorney if you can afford it, and leave pro bono services available to those in need. Again, we use a pay-it-forward model to make our services affordable and accessible (and outside of our firm we also donate our time to pro bono efforts).

There are many other resources out there, and we urge you to exercise caution about receiving help on a legal issue from someone who isn’t licensed and authorized to practice law.

Can’t find what you’re looking for?

If our site doesn’t answer your questions, send us an email at contact@hmlawtx.com. We’ll do our best to get back to you within 2 business days, Monday—Thursday.

This is for general, non-billable questions only. We will not provide legal advice or establish an attorney-client relationship through contact@hmlawtx.com. We will direct you to make an appointment if your question would require billable time to answer.
